Daniel Simpson is a postdoctoral research assistant at the Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology, on the ‘Mobilising Aboriginal Objects’ project, which is working with the La Perouse community in Sydney to identify and investigate Sydney-region object collections in British museums, and to arrange the eventual loan of selected objects back to Country. He previously worked as a Project Curator at the British Museum and a research fellow at the National Maritime Museum. His doctoral thesis and later research has focussed on eighteenth- and nineteenth-century histories of ethnographic collecting in Australia and the Pacific, specifically by Royal Navy personnel, as well as the concurrent development of public and private museum institutions in Britain.
