Author: Devi Chakrabarti

Devi Chakrabarti is a final year doctoral candidate at the Department of Social Anthropology, University of Cambridge. Her PhD project is titled ‘The Afterlives of a Disaster: Post-Earthquake Reconstruction and Spiritual Life in Bhaktapur, Nepal’. Her research explores the rebuilding of temples in post-earthquake Bhaktapur, with an emphasis on how reconstruction projects are experienced as affective and spiritual initiatives, and how restoration activities relate to the locals’ perception of the city’s entwining material and sacred geographies.

Continuity and Change in the Durbar Square at Bhaktapur, Nepal

MAA cares for a few photographs of Bhaktapur's famous Durbar Square. Devi Chakrabarti juxtaposes these with some recent ones, exploring patterns of continuity and change in a vulnerable city.
