Author: Ayesha Fuentes

Ayesha Fuentes is an objects conservator and technical historian specializing in the care and handling of archaeological and anthropological collections with research interests in Asian material religion, human remains and facilitating broad access to cultural objects. She is a graduate of the UCLA/Getty MA Program in the Conservation of Archaeological and Ethnographic Materials and in 2021 completed her PhD at SOAS University of London.

Feeling at home and the “psychosomatics of arecaidinism”

A large selection of objects at MAA relate to the practice of betel nut chewing. Ayesha Fuentes explores these objects through her own experiences of engaging in this practice.
